Herr Ludwig Meister's letters (2002)

_____________________

These letter's have been translated from their original German language into English.

The translation of these letter's and the German Police report also on this website was carried out by St. Julian's High School, Newport City, Gwent. UK.

I would like to thank the school for their help in the translation's and in particular the teacher's Mrs. Hilary Collins, librarian and Mr. Mike Turner, Head of German.

The first letter is a reply to my initial request for any information about the loss of Lancaster ED627. The second letter gives details from his flying log-book about the event and includes an extract from his radio operators (Hannes Forke) diary giving a description of the attack on ED627.

Finally it describes an incident that still  haunts him today of a near-miss air collision with a Lancaster returning from the bombing raid over Nuremberg. This event happened after ED627 was shot down.
